Cheney Creek

Lush, old forest like this stand on Cheney Creek is proposed for logging by the BLM in the Pickett West Timber Sale. This particular stand, and others like, it would be deferred from treatment in the Community Alternative; instead, commercial logging treatments would be focused on plantations stands and areas with previous logging history. The Pickett West Community Alternative would protect existing late-seral habitats while building resilience in younger stands. The Community Alternative would both protect our existing old forest and manage our younger stands for old-growth characteristics. This is especially important in watersheds like Cheney Creek that retain less than 10% of their original old-growth forest.
